West Highland Way and more...

We first learned about the West Highland Way when we were planning our 2017 UK trip. After much discussion we decided to hike the Hadrian Wall in England and the Great Glenn Way in Scotland. When we planned that trip we used Macs Adventure, an adventure tour site we highly recommend. At the time we did not feel that we had the stamina and the fitness to complete the West Highland Way. We completed the Hadrian Wall Trip across northern England and then proceeded to Fort William to start the Great Glenn Way. One evening at a pub in Fort William, before we started the Great Glen Way, we came upon a group of hikers who had just completed the West Highland Way. It was delightful to see the celebratory relationship among the hikers in the pub that evening. We decided then and there that eventually we would get back to Scotland and walk the West Highland Way. After Completing the Chilkoot Trail in 2019 we feel that we have the skills and fitness to tackle the West Highland Way and much more.

...The West Highland Way (Glencoe and Lochaber) are equal in beauty to anywhere in the world. The Way has become a pilgrimage for mountain lovers keen to travel simply on foot into the heart of the Scottish Highlands. ... Right from the start the Way gives walkers a taste of the magic of Scotland's wild land and within a week you will have walked through some of the most fabulous scenery in Britain... (Loram, Charlie. West Highland Way: Glasgow to Fort William: Planning, Places to Stay, Places to Eat: 53 Large-Scale Maps & Guides to 26 Towns and Villages. Trailblazer Publications, 2016.)

Upon completion of the West Highland way we are considering adding The Camino Portuguese, the Dolomites in Italy and perhaps some time in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Time and finances will be a determining factor, but for now we are enjoying the sweet process of planning another walking adventure for 2020.
